God is the Absolutely Real (al-Haqq) and the Ultimate Good (Al-Khayr). He
is the One who possesses the Most Beautiful Names (Al-Asma' Al-Husna).
Being
such, He is Goal of existence and the Source of all that is good in it, which
means that all in existence must acknowledge Him as being who and what He
is, if it wishes to seek the Truth and is desirous of the highest Good.
Everything
in existence shall return to God (wa ila Allahi-l-masir), because He is
the source and the final end of all existence. Thus, when He tells us we
must worship Him, He directs us to the Real Goal of life. He is Independent
(Al-Ghani) of us, but we are dependent on Him.
Thus, by asking us to worship
or acknowledge Him, He is not expressing an arbitrary will of a tyrant or a
gratuitous desire of a vain person. He is pointing us, most rigourously,
to Truth, to Reality. In this Truth we are invited to fully ourselves, in
the Abode of ultimate Peace (Dar as-Salam), where we share in His Everlasting
Divine Gifts and become Immortalised in Happiness, a goal which every alive
and intelligent person should seek with all his faculties, and God knows
best.
Best wishes
Maryam
