Mixing Madhhabs (revisited)
Q
If one who is a shafi did take the rukhsa concerning the socks
would it be permissble in that paticular case to make taqlid of the hanbali
madhab in one's wudu and salat?
Can one pray like a hanbali one day and on another day pray like a shafi
and so on?
A
In theory: yes, one could pray one day according to one school and
another day according to another. This is one of the only ways I know of to
remember more than one madhhab. While this is only somewhat of a hassle for
basic, everyday things, it really gets difficult when you throw in sujud
al-sahu and some of the rarer things that are unlikely but still inevitably
come up.
If the issue is just wiping on socks, perhaps you can buy Sealsocks or
some other waterproof sock that is synthetic and strong enough to walk a
good distance on yet still thin enough to wear with normal shoes. Finding a
solution within your base madhhab is easier. Also, if there is some real
excuse in wiping over socks, you are more likely to find leniency than if
it is simply for the sake of convenience.
And Allah knows best.
