For decades, the Zionist narrative has been adopted by a wide range of mainstream media, in such a way that public opinion about the Palestinian cause around the world, especially in the West, has been largely formed from the Israeli perspective. This narrative includes everything from the history of Palestine to the definition of the "conflict” within Israeli terminology. In times of armed confrontation, however, 'Israel' holds a special discourse that aims at establishing specific concepts about Israel's military actions in general, and about every particular operation it is engaged in at the moment.

However, a close look into the coverage of the latest Israeli 11-day bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip, would be enough to clearly identify some of these basic propaganda concepts, their true meaning and their ultimate goal.
(Examples are the BBC, Reuters, CNN, CNBC, The New York Times, Deutsche Welle…)
Israel's conflict is against an entire people. (Gaza is unlivable - context!)
The aggressive, belligerent nature of the siege of Gaza is totally ignored.

As Israeli warplanes, artillery positions, and armed drones rained down on Gaza, destroying 1,174 homes and damaging 57 schools and hospitals, European leaders joined their American counterparts in defending the Israeli government's war crimes. They falsely argued that the chain of events in this latest round of violence started with Hamas rockets. Only it did not. The rockets were launched from Gaza in response to the violent expulsion of Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah in occupied East Jerusalem and intensified with the violent raid by Israeli forces on al-Aqsa Mosque during the final Friday prayers of Ramadan.
