05 Passing Beyond Illusory Life & Joining With Real Life

In short, if Ibn al-ʿArabī left behind a living legacy, it will be present only in the awareness and consciousness of people who ‘live through the Real.’

Participation in this legacy demands passing beyond illusory life and joining with real life. …

I want to focus on one way in particular – the way that forms the core of the intellectual tradition. It is nicely expressed in a maxim cited by Ahmad Samʿānī, a great teacher from Persia in the generation before Ibn al-ʿArabī:

❖

‘Recognition is the heart’s life with God.’[4]
