I want to focus on one way in particular – the way that forms the core of the intellectual tradition. It is nicely expressed in a maxim cited by Ahmad Samʿānī, a great teacher from Persia in the generation before Ibn al-ʿArabī:

‘Recognition is the heart’s life with God.’[4]
