Neither War Nor Terrorism:
The Islamic Response to Terrorism and War
Concerning the occupation of Iraq, 2003, 2004 -
The war on and occupation of Iraq was wrong, illegal; against Islamic law as well as against international law,
as lawless an endevour as were the attacks on Afghanistan and negative for international relations between the US and the Muslim World.
(ca. 2004)
Concerning the war of aggression on Iraq, March 2003
It has been said that Iraq has had not months but 12 years in which to disarm, and that the US-government's patience is exhausted. Yet it is over 30 years since resolution 242 called on Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories.
It has also been said that the terrorist attacks on New York cost the lives of over 3000 people. But how many thousands of innocent people died in the Iraqi war? Had they ever voted freely for this dictator - munafiq which they had to put up with for 30 or so years?
Some articles after the terrorist attacks on New York, Sept. 11, 2001
What really happened on this day of crime, Allah knows best, there was certainly more to it, than has been told so far!
( New evidence makes you pose some questions! )
• Could it be that the US-administration in its pursuit of securing future oil supplies - used the terrorist attacks on New York as a pretext and excuse for expanding into (Muslim-) Asia?!
• "USA and the West have a certain responsibility to have laid ground for radical Islamic movements in the 80-ies and early 90-ies, when the US encouraged fanatical Muslim leaders to recruit Muslims from all over the world and take them to trainingcamps in Pakistan and Afghanistan, in order to fight against the Soviet occupation." Scott Baldauf in Afghanistan-Nytt 2/01
• Concerning Sept. 11, 2001, Iran's Khatami said that those who commit violence in the name of any religion commit two crimes – one against humanity, and one against religions "based on faith and love." (Sep. 2006)
Concerning War:
The bombing of Afghanistan was wrong, other - diplomatical, economical and political - measures should have been taken to bring suspected terrorists to justice at an international court of justice! An independent Islamic country was brutally attacked, irrespective if we agree with their policies or not, whereas proofs for their involvement in the attacks of 9/11 were never presented! Many innocent people were killed.
Two wrongs don't make one right. The best 'self-defense' for the US and the West is to alleviate the plight of the poor in the Third World, to amend great injustices and to stop supporting undemocratical, tyrannical regimes around the world and to stop supplying them with high-technological weapons.
Concerning the Zi on-ist state of I s rael we have to ask if
nothing substantive is ever demanded of Israel,
can it go on doing what it has without a thought for the consequences?
It is high time to conclude the unjust Western support for the Zi on-ist state, a support which irrespective of their policies of occupation.
It is to give the Third World countries trade access to Western markets and to help to develop their own economical potential, instead of keeping them in the straightjacket of the interest-devouring IMF and World Bank.
Concerning Terrorism:
Eroding rights is not going to get rid of terrorism! The positions of our peace-making sunnah (, ) are crystal-clear, even if the enemies of Islam like to distort its message and practice.
[no torture: ] [self-defense: ] [ aggression not to be justified: ]
What complicates things is the fact that while traditional Islamic teaching is deficient in many countries, where modernist ideas are being introduced , however humiliation and repression of Muslims seem to be the order of the day.
Also have extremist teachings in the Islamic community been rampant for some time, with devastating consequences. < more >
• But this does not change the pre-eminence and
validity of the divine law (of divine mercy < more >),
• and that actions are by intentions
• and not every self-styled fighter for Allah does enter paradise
• and note also the saying of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ
"Both legal and illegal things are
evident, but in between them there are doubtful (suspicious) things and
most of the people have no knowledge about them. So whoever saves
himself from these suspicious things saves his religion and his honor..."

Nuh Ha Mim Keller - Sunday 30 September:
If in the last fifty years world governments like the United States and Britain have somehow convinced themselves that it is morally acceptable to kill, starve, and maim civilians of other countries in order to persuade their governments to do something, it would be surprising if this conviction did not somehow percolate [drip] down to the dispossessed, the hopeless, the aggrieved, and the powerless of every religion and ethnic group in the world. It looks as if it has.

Bin Laden Calls Anew for Attacks
dailynews.yahoo / AP, Thursday December 27
"It is important to concentrate on the destruction of the American economy, so the United States will be too busy to bother with Islamic fighters."
"Our terrorism is against America. Our terrorism is a blessed terrorism to prevent the unjust person from committing injustice and to stop American support for Israel, which kills our sons," bin Laden said.
He said it was "inconceivable" that his followers would "go after innocent civilians."
Those who carried out the attacks on New York and Washington were "just 19 high school students - may God accept them as martyrs - who shook America, struck the American economy in the heart and hit the biggest military force at its heart with God's help," he said.

Bin Laden's statement: (October 7, 2001)
I bear witness that there is no God but Allah and that Mohammed is his messenger. There is America, hit by God in one of its softest spots. Its greatest buildings were destroyed, thank God for that.
There is America, full of fear from its north to its south, from its west to its east. Thank God for that. What America is tasting now, is something insignificant compared to what we have tasted for scores of years. Our nation (the Islamic world) has been tasting this humiliation and this degradation for more than 80 years. Its sons are killed, its blood is shed, its sanctuaries are attacked, and no one hears and no one heeds.
When God blessed one of the groups of Islam, vanguards of Islam, they destroyed America. I pray to God to elevate their status and bless them. Millions of innocent children are being killed as I speak. They are being killed in Iraq without committing any sins and we don't hear condemnation or a fatwa from the rulers.
In these days, Israeli tanks infest Palestine - in Jenin, Ramallah, Rafah, Beit Jalla, and other places in the land of Islam, and we don't hear anyone raising his voice or moving a limb. When the sword comes down (on America), after 80 years, hypocrisy rears its ugly head. They deplore and they lament for those killers, who have abused the blood, honour, and sanctuaries of Muslims. The least that can be said about those people, is that they are debauched. They have followed injustice. They supported the butcher over the victim, the oppressor over the innocent child. May God show them His wrath and give them what they deserve.
I say that the situation is clear and obvious. After this event, after the senior officials have spoken in America, starting with the head of infidels worldwide, Bush, and those with him. They have come out in force with their men and have turned even the countries that belong to Islam to this treachery, and they want to wag their tail at God, to fight Islam, to supress people in the name of terrorism.
When people at the ends of the earth, Japan, were killed by their hundreds of thousands, young and old, it was not considered a war crime, it is something that has justification. Millions of children in Iraq, is something that has justification. But when they lose dozens of people in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam (capitals of Kenya and Tanzania, where US embassies were bombed in 1998), Iraq was struck and Afghanistan was struck. Hypocrisy stood in force behind the head of infidels worldwide, behind the cowards of this age, America and those who are with it.
These events have divided the whole world into two sides. The side of believers and the side of infidels, may God keep you away from them. Every Muslim has to rush to make his religion victorious. The winds of faith have come. The winds of change have come to eradicate oppression from the island of Muhammad, peace be upon him.
To America, I say only a few words to it and its people. I swear by God, who has elevated the skies without pillars, neither America nor the people who live in it will dream of security before we live it in Palestine, and not before all the infidel armies leave the land of Muhammad, peace by upon him. God is great, may pride be with Islam. May peace and God's mercy be upon you.

Congregant: in the simplest term, Islam says that human life is the most
sacrosanct, and there is no way that Islam would allow a suicide mission,
and would allow the killing of innocents. see above: <The Pacifism of Islam>
...
Bradley: Imam Hamza Yusuf of California:
Yusuf: it's prohibited in Islam to torture animals. It's prohibited to kill
animals without just cause. So the idea of killing human beings, innocent
human beings, is anathema to Muslims. They're deeply shocked by it.
Bradley: while Islam forbids the killing of innocents, in this 1998
interview, bin Laden justified the U.S. Embassy bombings in Africa, saying
every American man is our enemy, whether he is a soldier or a taxpayer. As
for the women and children who died, he says women and children die every
day in Palestine. In a statement last week, bin Laden called for a jihad or
holy war in the name of Allah.
Yusuf: I would say that he has no legitimate authority, that an Islamic
Jihad can only be declared by legitimate state authority. And this is
accepted by consensus. There is no vigilantism in Islam. Muslims believe in
state authority.
Bradley: you think he's a vigilante?
Yusuf: ... All Muslims are guided by the words of
Islam's holy book, the Koran, which is believed to be the word of God, and
explains how Muslims should lead their lives. It also says fighting should
only be in self-defence, a fight in the way of Allah against those who
fight against you, but be not aggressive. And the Koran forbids suicide.
They cannot bring any textual evidence from the Koran, from the traditions
of the prophet, to prove anything that justifies what they've done.
...
Bradley: so if the people who are followers who are responsible for this are
followers of Islam, how do they justify this?
Yusuf: there is no justification. But how do Christians have to justify
Christians who kill people at abortion clinics? Many of the terrorist
activities in this country are actually done by extremist Christian
elements, and I don't think anybody in the mainstream Christian world would
see that as anything other than a serious aberration. Unfortunately, because
of our ignorance in this country of Islam, we see these type of things, and
there is an assumption that somehow Islam condones this thing.
...
Bradley: and the Satan of the evil west, according to Muslim extremists, is
the United States and its culture of commercialism, which Imam Farid Esack
equates with a religion.
Esack: it is the fastest-growing religion in the world, the religion of
consumerism, and everybody is being drawn into this new religion. And if you
do not buy into this, you are an outcast, you are a heretic, and there is
the hellfire of utter poverty which awaits you.
